Where to get Uniforms

Ultimately, you are responsible for acquiring your uniform.

As a brand new cadet, your first uniform will be an ABU uniform.  The squadron has a supply of ABU uniforms and may have something in your size.  These uniform items are offered at a substantial discount to squadron members.  You will have purchase other uniform items.

All uniform items can be purchased from www.vanguardmil.com, although other sites may have discounts.

Propper might have ABU uniform items and you can find other sources searching online for ‘ABU Uniforms’, ‘ABU Hats’, etc.

You can also try various area Army/Navy stores for non-CAP specific items:

Upon completion of your first Achievement (Curry), you may receive a  voucher to help purchase a some uniform items (Curry Voucher Program), the amount of the voucher is based on the information you provided when you submitted your application to join CAP.  The voucher is only good for certain uniform items, so you should use it to get those items.  While you can purchase uniform items from the squadron supply, we ask that you fully use voucher funds to purchase uniform items. This will help the squadron stretch its supply to as many cadets as we cann.

ABU Uniform

ABU uniforms purchased from Vanguard have youth sizes and you should consult their sizing chart.

Generally, a little too big is better than a little too small.

The “Civil Air Patrol” tape is sewn above the wearer’s left side pocket, and the name tape is sewn above the wearer’s right side pocket.

Special Note Concerning Boots

From the CAP Uniform regulation, this is the description of what the boots should be:

“Black, with or without safety toe, plain rounded toe or rounded capped toe with or without perforated seam. Zipper or elastic inserts optional, mesh inserts (for “jungle boot” style) are optional; smooth or scotch-grained leather or man-made material, and may have a high gloss or patent finish. …. Any logos will be the same color as the boot.”

You may be able to source boots from a local store for less than through Vanguard.  Look for “Tactical Boots” at Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, or other store.  Also, stores that supply EMTs or Police (such as The Fire Store – 104 Independence Way, Coatesville, PA 19320) would also have boots.  The key points are they must be black and able to take polish on the leather surfaces.

Blues Uniform

You can order additional items from Vanguard, or try to source them from other online retailors.  The Squadron Supply has used Blues uniforms shirts, pants, and skirts to supplement your purchases.

Blues uniforms follow standard adult sizes for both males and females, no youth sizes.
